Please find below answers to many of our Frequently Asked Questions.
Why is the Roadster on Preorder?
If we could change anything about how we operate, it would be to magically blink our Roadster to your front door! Sadly, we can’t do that so we’d like to take a few minutes to explain why the Roadster is currently sold on Preorder and when you can expect to receive your Roadster.
First, a bit about us:
Tiller Rides is a startup on a mission to improve human lives and the planet through transforming the way we get around our cities. We have a global vision and are funding the realisation of this with private investment. To create our first product, we spent the last 5 years asking urban riders what they wanted from an eBike, then designing, prototyping, and beta-testing the Roadster to ensure we had created the very best Ride.
In 2020 we began establishing our production line and are now in the final stages of tweaks to ensure we can run it continuously. The first Roadsters arrived in Australia in March 2022, allowing us to start fulfilling orders to over 250 (pre-2022) preorders. We estimate that most of these pre-2022 preorders will be delivered by August 2022.
Big thank you to our early investors and believers!
So, when is delivery?
While we are rolling out these pre-2022 preorders, our production line is continuing, allowing us to start rolling out the new preorders from July onwards.
There are a few factors, however, that make it difficult to estimate the exact Delivery date:
- Sharp increase in global petrol prices has created surging demand for eBikes
- A global shortage of components and raw materials which is causing longer manufacturing times,
- A shortage of maritime containers which generates additional transport costs and delays.
- Ongoing COVID-19 lockdowns in our manufacturing location which intermittently impacts production and transport.
We can only produce a set amount of eBikes at a time, so there is a bit of a queue based on when the preorder was placed. This means delivery is on a rolling timeline, and we will update the Product page regularly with the estimated delivery month. In general:
- For WA: delivery will be within 2-3 months of preordering.
- For Melbourne: delivery from November
- For the rest of Australia: we are currently not open for orders, but actively gauging interest in your city to help us decide where we launch next. Please let us know in the box below if you'd like to see Tiller Rides in your area!
Where can I purchase a Tiller Rides Roadster eBike?
What are the benefits of riding an electric bike?
The benefits of riding an eBike are many, so we are going to break it down into three broad topics:
Wellbeing & Fitness
With an eBike, you experience the benefits of riding a traditional bike - such as being out in the fresh air, fitness improvements and ease of manoeuvring around town - plus the added bonus of electric assistance for those times you need extra power. Tiller Rides uses torque sensor assistance technology, meaning the electric assist applies smooth power that feels like a natural extension of your riding effort.
Feeling tired or travelling to a meeting and don’t want to work up a sweat? Amp up the assist level to reduce your required effort. Riding home from work and want some exercise? Turn down the assist and get moving!
Time and Budget
An eBike is powered by electricity - not petrol - which alone represents a huge financial saving for many - especially when charged from home solar power. It can be parked securely nearly anywhere, removing the hassle and costs of inner city parking.
If you drive your car to work, sit in traffic most of the way and struggle to find a parking bay, or catch a crowded bus or train, swapping to a Tiller Rides Roadster could make your journey quicker, cheaper, more convenient and more enjoyable.
You only need to ride a Roadster e-bike 1000 kilometres instead of driving a small car before you save enough greenhouse gases to offset the emissions associated with the entire lifecycle of the bike. If you charge your Roadster with solar power or clean electricity from your electricity provider the environmental benefits are even greater.
How is a Tiller Rides Roadster different to other eBikes on the market?
The Tiller Rides team is made up of experienced riders, designers, engineers and technicians who have spent extensive time engaging riding enthusiasts and reluctant riders to understand the common problems urban riders face. After more than six years of research and prototyping, Tiller Rides has created the ultimate urban transporter that incorporates unrivalled features in an attractive, light-weight and cost effective design.

Where are Tiller Rides Roadsters made?
Tiller Rides Roadsters are designed and engineered in Perth, Western Australia and manufactured at world-leading facilities near Shenzhen in China. Our manufacturing partners have been carefully selected for their proficiency and expertise at producing the Roadster's parts with scale, precision and attention to detail.

What range will I get on a Tiller Rides Roadster electric bike?
The "Founders Edition" Roadster electric bike is fitted with a long range 21 amp-hour (756 watt-hours) battery pack.
This will enable you to ride approximately 80 km on full assist (yes, full assist!) and much further on low and medium levels of assist. Range is dependent on rider weight, tyre pressure, the number of hills and wind strength.
How long does the Roadster's battery take to charge and how do you charge it?
The Roadster’s battery takes 9 hours to fully charge - an overnight charge.
All Roadster batteries can be charged on the bike or easily removed and charged. The charger simply plugs into an everyday power outlet. There is an integrated battery level display so you can monitor battery level and usage.
Will the other functions of my Tiller Rides Roadster work if the battery is flat?
No, if the battery goes flat the alarm, GPS and all connectivity will cease working. If this happens you will need to charge the battery while still in the Roadster to bring it back to life.
Is the battery protected from theft?
Yes, when the anti-theft system is armed the battery is electronically locked into your bike. It’s like central locking in a car!
How do you use the anti-theft system?
Tiller Rides Roadsters are keyless and can be armed and disarmed using a code punched into the control switch on the handlebars or via the connected Tiller Rides app (i.e. you don’t need the app to disarm or arm it).
What type of Lithium Ion battery do you use?
Fun fact: These are the battery cells used by NASA for their space missions - making them the best all rounder battery in and out of this world!
There has been some general confusion around Lithium Ion batteries and if they are good or bad. This stems in part from the fact that "Lithium Ion" has become a catch phrase that encompasses a wide range of battery chemistries, from our NMC battery to Lithium Ion Phosphate ("LFP") batteries.
As this study shows, each type of Lithium Ion chemistry performs differently. The LFP, for example, performs better with Safety, but underperforms for Cost, Specific Energy, and Specific Power. Our NMC battery performs consistently across all metrics - Safety, Cost, Specific Energy, Specific Power, Life Span, and Performance.
How do you turn a Tiller Rides Roadster on and off?
The Roadster doesn’t really have on and off - it has Sleep and Armed.
To put your Roadster to sleep you just press and hold the power button (Button 1) once you have finished riding. In this mode the power usage is minimal because the Alarm system is not active. While this mode saves power it also makes the Roadster less secure.
To ensure maximum security if you don’t put your Roadster to sleep manually it will automatically Arm itself after a few minutes of being idle.
What is the maximum riding speed?
Tiller Rides Roadsters have a 250W motor with three levels of assist (and off). The power assist cuts out at 25 kilometres/hour, as per the requirements of the Australian and European design standards. You can always go faster than 25km/hour down a hill or under your own pedal power.
How much do the Tiller Rides Roadsters weigh?
The Roadster weighs around 25kg including all features and attachments. The battery weighs about 5kg, and can be removed for easier lifting and transport.
The relatively light weight of the Roadster has been achieved through careful engineering of the aluminium frame (just 3.5 kg) and the other components (mostly aluminium).
What are the benefits of the Roadster's monocoque frame?
Monocoque frames debuted in the car-racing industry. This type of frame enabled racecars to be both very strong and have a streamlined, efficient and visually pleasing form.
Tiller Rides is the first company in the world to take this innovation and apply it to the traditional bike. It allows us to create a frame that is strong, stylish, and hollow - allowing it to house the extensive features discreetly.
The light-weight, aeroplane-grade aluminium monocoque frame safely houses a removable battery, alarm and GPS tracking electronics, Quicktether cable lock, integrated display, lights, motor controller and all cabling.

Parts, Servicing & Accessories
Where can I get my Tiller Rides Roadster serviced?
Many of the parts of the eBike, such as tyres and brake pads, can be serviced by any bike shop.
For complex servicing, the Western Australian service centre is located in Perth, WA. Western Australian buyers outside the Perth metropolitan area are required to return their electric bike to this location should any major servicing be required.
Tiller Rides service centres will be set up in other major capital cities in the first two years. Up until those centres are established, servicing will be performed by trained service partners, by shipping assemblies or by returning your bike back to the nearest Tiller Rides service centre.
We are also in the early stages of establishing a Rider Network that will enable riders to find other nearby riders who are experienced in performing simple service procedures and arrange to have them perform the service.
What accessories are included?
The Roadster comes with a range of in-built features that other eBikes normally bolt on. These make urban cycling easier, more convenient and more cost-effective:
- Front & Rear Safety Lights
- Rear Carrier
- Quicktether extendable cable lock
- Retractable double stand
- Mudguards front and rear
- Alarm system
If the Quicktether cable is cut, how do I replace it?
The Quicktether cable is designed to be easily replaced in the event that it is cut. We've built the internal mechanism in a way that you could do it yourself, however we can also assist with it. We will be selling replacement cables online soon, but if you need one ASAP we have them available in our warehouse.
