How to make the most of your extra time at home

COVID-19 has a lot of us spending more time at home. So how can we make the most of this? The crew at Tiller Rides share what they’ve been up to before and after work and on weekends. Maybe our advice will inspire you to try something new!

Enjoy the great outdoors

Tayla Hendriks

Operations Assistant

"I have been spending a lot more time in the great outdoors! Fortunately, there are many hiking trails very close to me. With gyms being closed, it has given me the opportunity to make the most of my time outside and enjoy the sunshine. I try to go for a hike every other day, it has been so beneficial for relieving stress and boosting my endorphins!"

Spend quality time with loved ones

Rob Jamieson

Production GM

"When not in my study working on the Roadster project, I have been spending my time playing with my one year old son Finn. We like to check up on the house we are building down the road. Finn thinks he will be a builder someday (or a dinosaur)."

Yong Wee Liu

Head of Mechanical Engineering

"In the positive light of the pandemic moment, working from home has brought me much closer to my children. They witness their daddy taking part in the design of the Roadster and how 3D printed parts can be utilised to aid the development of a product.

My son Ian has shown great interest in the engineering work and I’ve decided to introduce him to some basic CAD modelling and some DIY initiatives. With some help from Daddy, Ian has successfully assembled a 5 tier open rack!"

Emily Lloyd

Marketing and Promotions Team Leader

"I’ve been spending more time with my dog Scout. Before and after work, we’ve been discovering new parks and walking tracks in the neighbourhood and learning some new tricks. Scout can now catch a ball in his mouth - which is pretty exciting! We’ve even set up an agility course in our yard for some fun! "

Put more time into hobbies

Shaun Floyd

Mechanical Design Engineer

"Thanks to the restrictions on moving around, I’ve spent a lot more time at home with my family and friends. I go walking or riding each day and I’m really appreciating my local neighbourhood and community more than ever.

I started building a sailboat late last year and this has also been a great time to make some progress on the build. I’ve recently fibreglassed the underside of the hull and I’m in the process of sanding down some jarrah beams that I found on the roadside. These will end up varnished along the top railing of the boat and will look grand!

Louie here likes to lie in the sun and supervise the build."

Julian Ilich

MD and Co-Founder

"While COVID-19 has certainly meant more time at home, it has also meant more time working our way through the many changes and challenges it presented. To help deal with a little extra stress, I often jump on the piano in the morning or in the evening. It helps me take my mind off everything - mostly because I am still an amateur and need 100% focus to read the music and get the arms and legs moving in response. Either way it is very relaxing and enjoyable and helps with getting to sleep. I have nearly mastered a song that I have been sporadically learning to play for a long time."

Max Chapman

Mechanical Engineer

"While I’ve been enjoying the extra time at home, I also found myself missing gymnastics - my main pursuit outside of work. Luckily, I managed to get my hands on some borrowed equipment, allowing me to keep in touch with some strength and balance work from the living room! I’ve found that a ten-minute session in the morning helps wake up the mind and body before getting into the day’s work. Hopefully, it’ll also mean that the transition back into training won’t be so steep when things calm down!"

Find your green thumb

Sam Froud

Industrial Designer

"Since the outbreak and announcement of a pandemic has meant we’ve all had to work from home, I’ve found myself looking for extra ways of refreshing my mental health and wellbeing in the confines of my own house. One thing I get a lot of enjoyment from, is spending time in the backyard and garden. And as we move into autumn and things cool off a little, it's been the perfect time to slow it down and enjoy the environment I’m lucky to have right on my doorstep. Even if it is just the simple things like mowing the grass..."

Hopefully there were some tips there to help you make the most of your time at home. We are definitely appreciating the chance to do more of the things we love.
